REGIONS OF PATROL

Louisiana currently has ten State Police Troops, each of which is comprised of a collection of Louisiana's 64 parishes (similar to counties, but unique to Louisiana). These troops are organized into four regions, with each region commanded by a State Police Major. Each troop is led by a State Police Captain.


Region I

Region I is headquartered in Baton Rouge and is the most heavily populated of the four State Police regions. Geographically, it encompasses thirteen (13) parishes in Louisiana's Capital Area and Northshore regions. It is bordered on the north and east by the state of Mississippi.

Within the Region I command structure are two State Police troops, each commanded by a State Police Captain:

    • I-10 (east/west artery)
    • I-12 (Baton Rouge / Slidell)
    • I-59 (Slidell / Mississippi)
    • I-55 (LaPlace / Mississippi)

Region II is headquartered in the Troop I area. Geographically, it encompasses eighteen (18) southern parishes. It is bordered on the west by the state of Texas and on the south by the Gulf of Mexico.

Region III is headquartered in Alexandria, LA. Geographically, it encompasses twenty-nine (29) of the central and northern parishes. It is bordered on the west by the state of Texas, on the north by the state of Arkansas, and on the east by the state of Mississippi.

Region III has two major interstate systems:

    • I-49 (north/south artery)
    • I-20 (east/west artery)

Within its boundaries are two major military installations - Barksdale Air Force Base and the U.S. Army Fort Polk. Also, Louisiana's third largest city, Shreveport, is in the northwest corner.

Region NOLA is headquartered in New Orleans, LA. Geographically, it encompasses six (6) parishes and includes the city of New Orleans. It is bordered on the south by the Gulf of Mexico and on the east by the state of Mississippi.
