ALL FEES ARE NON-REFUNDABLE and must be paid by money order, cashier's check, certified check, or credit card.
Original/First-Time Applicants:
To apply for a concealed handgun permit, a citizen should follow the steps below:
- Apply for a Concealed Handgun Permit in one of the following ways:
- Complete and submit the online Concealed Handgun Permit Application.
- Download a Concealed Handgun Permit Application and complete the instructions found on pages one and two of the application
- Obtain an application at State Police Headquarters (7919 Independence Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA 70806) between the hours of 8:00 am and 4:30 pm, Monday - Friday.
- Provide all necessary documentation pertaining to training, arrest dispositions, medical summary dispositions, and divorce decrees (if applicable). New fingerprints must be submitted for original/first-time applicants (see below). Old fingerprints on file may not be accepted.
- Fingerprints should be submitted electronically via the Louisiana Applicant Processing Solution (LAPS) only AFTER you have submitted your CHP application. To schedule an appointment near your residence simply click HERE and enter one of the below codes in the “Service Code” box:
• 27KBQ3 if you have lived in LA 15 years or more, or
• 27KBNN if you have lived in LA less than 15 years
- Special Officer's Commission applications should be submitted through the CHP application portal by selecting "Special Officer Commission" for applicant type. Fingerprint cards should be submitted upon the completion of your application. For location convenience, the LAPS portal can be used for fingerprint submission, however, there will be a charge of $16.50 to $21.50 for fingerprints submitted through LAPS. LAPS fingerprinting can be scheduled here: https://uenroll.identogo.com/.
- The Special Officer Commission "Service Code" is 27KBRJ

Renewals:
Permit holders will be notified in writing at their address of record approximately 120 days before the expiration of their permit to begin the renewal process; however, it is the responsibility of the permittee to renew their permit in a timely manner.
Upon notification, apply for a Concealed Handgun Permit in one of the following ways:
- Complete and submit the online Concealed Handgun Permit Application.
- Download a Concealed Handgun Permit Application and complete the instructions found on pages one and two of the application.
- Obtain an application at the State Police Headquarters (7919 Independence Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA 70806) between the hours of 7:30 am and 3:30 pm, Monday - Friday.
- Submit the renewal application with a new training certificate, a photocopy of your driver's license, and the appropriate fees. A fingerprint submission is not needed for renewal applications (unless your fingerprints are not on file).
The completed application should be returned to the Department no less than 90 days before the expiration of the permit to allow sufficient time for processing.
You must submit your application within 60 days after the expiration date, or you will be required to submit a new original application to possibly include a fingerprint submission.

Lifetime Renewals:
Lifetime permit holders are required to complete refresher training every five (5) years as required by LRS 40:1379.3.(V)(4)(a).
Lifetime permittees do NOT need to fill out another application. Rather, they should upload copies of their current training certificate and driver's license (or ID card) to their profile in the CHP Portal.
If unable to access the portal, permittees may email their current training certificate and driver's license (or ID card) to [email protected]. We also require any information changes (e.g., address updates).
Online Application
If you apply online, you will receive an email once your application has been accepted. This email will contain a link to pay for the permit by credit card. If you do not remit payment within thirty (30) days of receiving the payment link, your application will be purged from the system and will require a new submission to proceed.
