Criminal Investigations Division

The Criminal Investigations Division (CID) is responsible for investigating criminal activity in the State of Louisiana. CID is comprised of Detectives, the Organized Crime Unit, Insurance Fraud/Auto Theft, and the Special Investigations Group. In addition to CID Headquarters, several field offices are maintained in strategic locations throughout the state.

CID Detectives are responsible for investigating external officer-involved shootings and in-custody deaths, public corruption and major white-collar economic crimes, multi-jurisdictional felony investigations, among other violations of Louisiana State Law.

The Organized Crime Unit is responsible for conducting investigations related to narcotics offenses, gang or narcotics-related shootings and firearm offenses, aggravated offenses, violent organized criminal activity, and other offenses that significantly impact public safety.

The Organized Crime Unit also consists of the Fugitive Apprehension Unit, which locates and apprehends known fugitives both in Louisiana and from other states.

IFAT investigates suspected fraudulent insurance acts; assists federal and local law enforcement agencies; cooperates with prosecutors; and promotes awareness of insurance fraud statewide.

IFAT also investigates individuals and organizations involved in motor vehicle theft.

Special Investigations Group

Criminal Intelligence

The mission of the Louisiana State Police Criminal Intelligence is to collect, evaluate, and disseminate information on known or suspected criminal violators, groups, or organizations for analytical exploitation by the Investigative Support Section. LA-SAFE will provide the department and other local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies with timely information regarding matters directly or indirectly affecting the safety and security of the people in the state. The Criminal Intelligence group shall only collect and retain information directly related to a legitimate law enforcement purpose. The activities of this unit shall not interfere with the exercise of constitutionally guaranteed rights and privileges of individuals.

Special Victims Unit (SVU)

The Special Victims Unit is responsible for investigating crimes related to human trafficking and the exploitation of children, including the possession, distribution and/or production of Child Sexual Abuse Material and solicitation of minors using computers or other electronic devices.

Technical Support

The Technical Support group is responsible for providing technical investigative support to the Louisiana State Police, as well as other state and local law enforcement agencies in Louisiana.
