Hazardous Materials Technician Street Chemistry I 

Hazardous Materials Technician Street Chemistry I is an intense introduction to the nature and behavior of chemicals. Instruction begins with a discussion on atomic structure and the periodic table of the elements and follows through with over 30 families of organic and inorganic chemicals. Emphasis is placed not only on name recognition but the chemical composition and the physical and hazardous characteristics associated with the various substances in the event of a spill or emergency. Above and below the line with the various substances in the event of a spill or emergency. DOT hazard classes, toxicology, fire chemistry, and the toxic products of combustion are also discussed as it pertains to various compounds. This course is taught by Chemical Safety Training, P.O. Prerequisite: None.

Required Equipment:

  • All necessary Personal Protective Equipment for this course will be provided.
  • Students may choose to bring their own work gloves.

Course Fee: FREE for Louisiana and Federal First Responders

Dress Code: The daily training attire for all courses is long pants, closed-toe shoes, and short or long-sleeve shirts.

Lodging: Lodging is provided at the Joint Emergency Services Training Center (JESTC) Staff Development Center at no cost for students who reside outside of 50 miles from the training site.

Meals: Due to the remote location of JESTC, lunch is provided for all students, and additionally, breakfast is provided for students who require lodging at the Staff Development Center.

PLEASE NOTE: EVENING MEALS WILL BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE STUDENT!
