DWI Detection & Standardized Field Sobriety Testing

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's curriculum is focused on training law enforcement to detect and apprehend impaired drivers, document evidence, and testify in court. This course covers, in detail, the three phases of DWI detection. Students will receive instruction on how to properly administer the Standardized Field Sobriety Test, as well as interpret the results to arrive at a correct arrest/release decision. The course is a combination of classroom and practical application of the skills learned.

Prerequisite:

Students must be:

  • A commissioned police officer/deputy with arrest powers and employed by a law enforcement agency in Louisiana.
  • A resident of the State of Louisiana at the time of application.

Required Equipment: Students should bring a laptop or mobile data terminal for the electronic training manual

Course Fee: None

Dress Code: Agency uniform or business casual. No shorts, t-shirts or flip-flops.
