Overview
The Louisiana State Police recognizes that, as an emergency response agency, its employees face exceptionally stressful situations and critical incidents that may trigger specific emotional and physical reactions in them and their families. Therefore, LSP established a policy of providing Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) and Peer Support, as well as other assistance and services, to employees and their immediate family members to help them navigate times of personal or professional crisis.
The Troopers and Employees Assistance Program (TEAP), established in 2008, offers every Louisiana Department of Public Safety (LADPS) employee the resources they need to maintain mental and physical well-being. TEAP addresses the needs of employees and, where possible, their families through a holistic, proactive approach to training, evaluating, and responding to critical incidents that impact LADPS personnel.
The Louisiana State Police TEAP Team is a registered Critical Incident Stress Foundation Team, one of only three in Louisiana. The TEAP Team is also the first state law enforcement agency in the United States to develop a Local Outreach for Suicide Survivors (LOSS) team to respond to incidents of suicide completion and/or attempts.
TEAP frequently supports other state law enforcement agencies and emergency responder personnel. Examples of the support and training provided to these agencies include CISM response and training, peer support, and peer-to-peer suicide intervention training.
The Louisiana State Police TEAP regularly hosts training sessions for law enforcement, mental health professionals, and chaplains. Registration for upcoming training can be found under TEAP Quick Links.
