Homer – Earlier today, just before 4:00 p.m., Troopers assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop G began investigating a one-vehicle fatality crash on LA Hwy 534 near Union Grove Road. This crash claimed the life of 20-year-old Jordan Shelton.
The initial investigation revealed Shelton was driving a 2014 Chevrolet Camaro northbound on LA Hwy 534. For reasons still under investigation, Shelton ran off the road and over-corrected. As a result, the Chevrolet traveled across LA Hwy 534 and entered a ditch then struck a tree.
Shelton, who was not restrained was transported to Claiborne Memorial Medical Center, where she was pronounced deceased. An unrestrained passenger was transported to a local hospital, where they were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in this crash; however, routine toxicology samples were taken and submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.
Buckling up is the most effective way to protect yourself during a vehicle crash. Failure to take a few seconds to buckle up can have devastating consequences. Louisiana law requires every person in a vehicle, regardless of seating position, to be properly restrained day or night.
In 2022, Troop G has investigated seven fatal crashes, resulting in eight deaths.
