Unrestrained Driver Killed in Two-Vehicle Acadia Parish Crash
Egan – On February 9, 2025, shortly after midnight, Louisiana State Police Troop I began investigating a two-vehicle fatality crash on Interstate 10 West near Trumps Road. The crash claimed the life of 58-year-old Luvenson Sowell of Baton Rouge.
The preliminary investigation revealed that Sowell was driving a 2007 Honda Accord west on I-10 behind a 2024 Kenworth Semi-Truck. The Kenworth came to a stop in the right westbound lane due to traffic congestion from a previous crash. For reasons still under investigation, the Honda failed to stop and struck the rear of the Kenworth’s trailer.
Sowell, who was unrestrained at the time of the crash, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Kenworth, who was properly restrained, was uninjured.
A standard toxicology sample was collected from both drivers and submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
Troopers wish to remind all motorists to make good decisions while in a motor vehicle. Never drive impaired, fatigued, or distracted. Additionally, Louisiana law requires that every person in a vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up. While not all crashes are survivable, these precautions can dramatically reduce your chances of being severely injured or killed.
