Unrestrained Driver Dies in Single-Vehicle Crash in St. John the Baptist Parish

Garyville – On Thursday, May 9, 2024, around 10:40 pm, Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop B were notified of a single-vehicle crash on US 61, near LA 54 in Garyville. The crash ultimately claimed the life of 44-year-old Conrad Jones of Reserve.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Jones was driving a 2006 Ford pickup north on US 61 near LA 54. For reasons still under investigation, the Ford ran off the right side of the roadway, traveled through a ditch, and rolled over multiple times.

Jones, who was unrestrained at the time of the crash suffered serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Impairment is unknown, standard toxicology samples were collected and submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.

Troopers would like to emphasize to the public that while not all crashes are survivable, watching your speed and wearing your seatbelt significantly reduces the risk of injury or death in the event of a crash. When speeding, you are more likely to lose control, and your ability to react to or avoid a roadway hazard is severely diminished. Before driving, taking a few moments to ensure that you and your passengers are properly buckled up can make a crucial difference in avoiding serious harm. Additionally, following all traffic regulations and adhering to speed limits enhances overall safety on the road.
