Prairieville Man Killed in Late Night Single-Vehicle Crash in Ascension Parish
Prairieville – Shortly before midnight on December 21, 2024, Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop A responded to a single-vehicle crash on LA 42 at LA 929 in Ascension Parish. The crash claimed the life of 57-year-old Richard Creel of Prairieville.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2000 Ford F-250, driven by Creel, was traveling westbound on LA 42, just west of Hornsby Road. For reasons still under investigation, the Ford failed to negotiate a left curve, exited the roadway to the right, and then struck a tree.
Creel was properly restrained at the time of the crash, sustained fatal injuries, and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Impairment is not suspected, however, a standard toxicology sample will be taken and submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
Troopers wish to remind motorists to always make good decisions while in a motor vehicle. Never drive impaired, fatigued, or distracted; follow all traffic laws, and always ensure every occupant is properly restrained. While not all crashes are survivable, taking simple precautions such as these can often mean the difference between life and death.
