Lake Charles – On February 21, 2025, shortly before 7:00 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop D began investigating a two-vehicle fatality crash involving a motorcycle on Louisiana Highway 385 (Gulf Highway) near its intersection with Eddie Hebert Road. This crash claimed the life of 52-year-old Carson McCain of Lake Charles.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2006 Honda motorcycle, driven by McCain, was traveling north on LA Hwy 385. At the same time, a 2012 Chevrolet Impala, driven by 35-Year-old Catharine Carlin of Deridder, was following behind the motorcycle. For reasons still under investigation, as the motorcycle began to slow and turn left toward a private driveway, the Chevrolet struck the rear of the motorcycle, causing McCain to be ejected.
McCain, who was wearing a DOT-approved helmet, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Carlin, who was properly restrained, sustained minor injuries and was transported to an area hospital for treatment.
Standard toxicology samples were submitted for analysis from both drivers. This crash remains under investigation.
Troopers wish to remind motorists to always make safe and responsible decisions when driving. Never drive impaired, fatigued, or distracted. While not all crashes are survivable, taking these simple precautions can often mean the difference between life and death.
