Cut Off Man Killed in Single-Vehicle Lafourche Parish Crash
 
Cut Off – On July 11, 2022, shortly before 1:00 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop C was notified of a single-vehicle fatal crash on Louisiana Highway 1 near West 55th Street. The crash claimed the life of 43-year-old Michael Gill of Cut Off. 
 
The preliminary investigation revealed a 2003 GMC Sierra was traveling south on LA Hwy 1 when it traveled off the roadway while in a curve. The driver attempted to return to the roadway but overcorrected causing the truck to rotate while traveling off the roadway before overturning into Bayou Lafourche and becoming submerged.
 
Gill was unable to exit the submerged truck and was pronounced dead at the scene. An additional occupant in the truck was able to exit the vehicle and suffered minor injuries. Seatbelt use for the two occupants is unknown at this time.
 
This crash remains under investigation as Troopers work to determine who was driving at the time of the crash. Further information will be released when it becomes available.
