Baton Rouge Woman Killed in Head-on Crash in Ascension Parish

Geismar – Just before 5:30 a.m. on October 15, 2024, Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop A responded to a two-vehicle crash on LA 30 near Gateway Drive in Ascension Parish.  The crash claimed the life of 36-year-old Tina Gettridge of Baton Rouge.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2022 Dodge Charger, driven by 32-year-old William Kaufman of Baton Rouge, was traveling eastbound on LA 30.  At the same time, a 2006 Infiniti M35 was traveling westbound on LA 30. For reasons still under investigation, the Dodge entered the westbound lane in an attempt to pass traffic in the eastbound lane and collided head-on with the Infiniti.

Both occupants of the Dodge were unrestrained during the crash. Kaufman sustained moderate injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital. Tina Gettridge, the front-seat passenger, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Infiniti, who was properly restrained, sustained moderate injuries and was also transported to a nearby hospital. As part of the ongoing investigation, standard toxicology samples were obtained and submitted for analysis.

Troopers urge motorists to always make responsible decisions while driving. Never drive impaired, fatigued, or distracted. Follow all traffic laws, and ensure that every occupant is properly restrained. While not all crashes are survivable, taking these simple precautions can often mean the difference between life and death.
