The Louisiana Department of Public Safety (DPS) Physical Security section is committed to maintaining a secure environment across a wide range of state facilities, with a primary focus on protecting vital locations such as the State Police Barracks, State Police Headquarters, and other high-priority state buildings. The section plays a crucial role in safeguarding the infrastructure that supports law enforcement operations, ensuring that both personnel and assets are protected from potential threats or breaches. Their responsibilities extend beyond just securing physical spaces; they are also responsible for overseeing access control systems, monitoring surveillance equipment, and coordinating emergency response protocols to maintain a high level of security at all times. In addition to these duties, DPS Physical Security officers are tasked with conducting regular security assessments and audits, identifying vulnerabilities, and implementing necessary improvements to enhance security measures. By maintaining a constant and vigilant presence, the Physical Security section ensures that critical operations continue without disruption, providing peace of mind for those who work within these facilities and the public they serve.
In 2003, the Louisiana Department of Public Safety (DPS) relocated its operations to a state-of-the-art prison facility situated within the expansive 1,760-acre State Police Training Facility near Zachary, LA. The facility is designed to accommodate up to 200 inmates and is equipped with advanced security technologies that enable comprehensive monitoring of inmate movement and activities throughout the entire 1,760 acres. In addition to overseeing inmate security, DPS Police is responsible for the overall protection of the facility, ensuring the safety of both those housed there and individuals who receive training at the facility. The section plays a vital role in maintaining a secure and controlled environment, allowing for effective law enforcement training and operations to continue without disruption.
