Sudden Impact Program

Background

The Sudden Impact Program is a nationally recognized, award-winning initiative developed by University Medical Center that aims to educate young

drivers about the consequences of reckless driving. Designed for high school sophomores, this interactive presentation delivers powerful messages that encourage healthy behaviors and discourages poor decision-making behind the wheel.

Best of all, this life-changing program is completely free of charge!

How it Works

The Sudden Impact program offers a unique and impactful experience that helps students understand the importance of responsible driving. Students are exposed to a range of perspectives from Louisiana State Police, trauma personnel, and individuals impacted by motor vehicle crashes. Through engaging discussions and powerful re-enactments, students gain valuable insights that can help them make better decisions on the road.

The Mock Crash segment of the program is a powerful outdoor theatrical production that showcases the devastating consequences of poor decisions while driving. The performance highlights the dangers of driving under the influence, texting while driving, and not wearing a seatbelt. Through this reenactment, participants witness the preventable consequences of poor choices as a driver or passengers. This segment is a sobering reminder of the importance of responsible driving and the impact of our decisions on ourselves and others.
