Zachary Man Killed in Two-Vehicle East Baton Rouge Parish Crash

Zachary – Shortly before 6 p.m. on December 7, 2025, Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a two-vehicle crash on US 61 at Port Hudson Plains Road. The crash claimed the life of 45-year-old Calvin Turner of Zachary.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Turner was driving a 1994 Chevrolet pickup truck east on Port Hudson Plains Road, approaching a stop sign at the intersection of US 61. At the same time, a 2017 Ford Transit van was traveling south on US 61. For reasons still under investigation, Turner entered the intersection without yielding at the stop sign and collided with the southbound Ford.

Turner was unrestrained at the time of the crash, sustained severe injuries, and was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the Ford was properly restrained and was uninjured. Impairment is not suspected; however, routine toxicology samples were obtained for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.

Troopers wish to remind motorists to always make responsible choices when driving: avoid impairment, fatigue, and distractions. Follow traffic laws and ensure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained. While not all crashes are preventable, simple precautions like these can save lives.
