Zachary Man Killed in Single-Vehicle Crash in West Feliciana Parish

Saint Francisville – Shortly after 3:30 p.m. on January 5, 2025, Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop A responded to a single-vehicle crash on LA 965, east of US 61 in West Feliciana Parish. The crash claimed the life of 50-year-old Jaime Hernandez of Zachary.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2014 Jeep Wrangler, driven by Hernandez, was traveling eastbound on LA 965. For reasons still under investigation, a falling tree struck a portion of the Jeep, causing Hernandez to run off the roadway to the left, striking multiple other trees.

Hernandez was unrestrained, sustained serious injuries, and was pronounced deceased on the scene. Impairment is unknown at this time; however, a standard toxicology sample will be taken and submitted for analysis. Inclement weather may have been a factor, and this crash remains under investigation.

Troopers wish to remind motorists to always make good decisions while in a motor vehicle. Never drive impaired, fatigued, or distracted; follow all traffic laws, and always ensure every occupant is properly restrained. While not all crashes are survivable, taking simple precautions such as these can often mean the difference between life and death.
