Port Barre - On January 13, 2025, shortly before 2:00 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop I began investigating a three-vehicle fatality crash on U.S. Highway 190 near Lakeshore Drive in St. Landry Parish. The crash claimed the life of 32-year-old Brandon Taylor of Port Barre.
The preliminary investigation revealed that Taylor was driving a 2024 Toyota Camry east in the westbound lanes of US Hwy 190. At the same time, a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado and a 2013 Freightliner truck were both traveling west. For reasons still under investigation, the Toyota collided head-on with the Chevrolet before being struck by the Freightliner.
All drivers were properly restrained. Taylor suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Chevrolet suffered moderate injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The driver of the Freightliner was uninjured in the crash.
As part of the ongoing investigation, a toxicology sample was obtained from Taylor and the driver of the Chevrolet and submitted for analysis. The driver of the Freightliner voluntarily provided a breath sample which showed no alcohol detected. This crash remains under investigation.
Louisiana State Troopers would like to take this opportunity to remind motorists of the importance of safe driving practices. Always be aware of your surroundings, obey traffic signs, and never drive against the flow of traffic. While not all crashes are survivable, making conscious choices on the road can often mean the difference between life and death.
