Update to Lafayette Police Officer-Involved Shooting at Heymann Park

Lafayette - Louisiana State Police investigators continue the investigation into an officer-involved shooting that occurred late yesterday evening on South Orange Street.

The initial investigation revealed Lafayette Police officers responded to a disturbance involving weapons on Lilly Street at approximately 7:30 p.m. Upon arrival, at least one officer engaged in a foot pursuit with a suspect armed with a rifle. The officer discharged his duty weapon as the suspect neared a crowd in a public park. As a result, the suspect received non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. No officers were injured during this incident.

The Lafayette Metro Crime Scene assisted Louisiana State Police investigators with processing the scene, and investigators are working diligently to gather further information. This investigation remains ongoing.

Louisiana State Police Investigating Lafayette Police Officer-Involved Shooting

Lafayette –The Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations has been requested by the Lafayette Police Department to investigate an officer-involved shooting in the 1500 block of S. Orange Street. Investigators are working to process the scene and gather further information. 

One subject was shot and transported to a local hospital for treatment. No officers were harmed during this incident. Additional details will be released when available.
