UPDATE: LSP Investigating Baton Rouge Police Department Officer-Involved Shooting

Baton Rouge - Louisiana State Police investigators continue the investigation into an officer-involved shooting that occurred near the 3400 block of N. Sherwood Forest Drive. The incident resulted in the arrest of 40-year-old Casey Cagle Jr. 

The initial investigation revealed that on November 21, 2024, just after 1:00 a.m., BRPD officers responded to a domestic disturbance near the 3400 block of N. Sherwood Forest Drive.  Upon arrival, BRPD officers made contact with Cagle, who was in possession of a knife. Despite receiving multiple commands to put down the knife, Cagle did not comply and charged toward the officers.  As a result, one of the officers discharged his firearm, striking Cagle. 

Cagle was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital for medical treatment, where he was treated and later released. After his release, he was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on charges of Aggravated Battery and Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer. The investigation remains active and ongoing.

Baton Rouge – This morning, the Baton Rouge Police Department (BPRD) requested assistance from the Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations – Criminal Investigations Division to investigate an officer-involved shooting that occurred near the 3400 block of N. Sherwood Forest Drive.

One subject was injured, transported to a local hospital, and later booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. No officers were injured during this incident. This investigation remains ongoing, and updates will be provided as they become available.
