UPDATE: LSP Detectives Investigating
Department of Public Safety Officer-Involved Shooting
East Baton Rouge Parish – Louisiana State Police Detectives continue the investigation into an officer-involved shooting that occurred yesterday evening in East Baton Rouge Parish.
The initial investigation revealed that on November 3, 2024, at approximately 8:30 p.m., a Department of Public Safety (DPS) Police Officer attempted to stop a Chevrolet Suburban for a traffic violation on Chippewa Street near Daisy Avenue, leading to a vehicle pursuit. During the pursuit, the Chevrolet crashed into the officer's fully marked patrol unit on Brownlee Street south of Bawell Street before accelerating toward the officer, who was standing nearby. The officer discharged his firearm, striking two of the three vehicle occupants.
The injured individuals were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. The driver of the Suburban, 33-year-old Tyler Pugh of Baton Rouge, suffered minor injuries and was later released from the hospital before being booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on outstanding warrants. The other subject struck by gunfire sustained serious injuries and remains hospitalized. The third passenger was uninjured. Additional charges are pending as the investigation continues.
In accordance with Louisiana Department of Public Safety policy, the DPS Police Officer involved in the incident has been placed on paid administrative leave. The investigation remains active, and further updates will be released in coordination with the East Baton Rouge Parish District Attorney's Office at the appropriate time.

East Baton Rouge Parish – On November 3, 2024, at approximately 8:30 p.m., Detectives with the Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations – Force Investigation Unit responded to investigate an officer-involved shooting that occurred on Brownlee Street in Baton Rouge.
Two subjects were injured and transported to a local hospital. No officers were harmed during this incident. Investigators are working to process the scene and gather further information. The Louisiana State Police Crime Lab assisted in processing the scene. This is an active investigation, and further information will be released when it becomes available.
