UPDATE: Louisiana State Police Investigating Trooper-Involved Shooting in Ascension Parish 

Through the ongoing investigation, detectives have learned that during a stop for a traffic violation on LA Hwy 431 near LA Hwy 935, the driver, 34-year-old Brandon Nicholas of Sunshine, became involved in an altercation with the Trooper. During the encounter, the Trooper discharged their service weapon, striking Nicholas. Investigators recovered an additional loaded firearm at the scene, which remains part of the ongoing investigation.

The investigation is still ongoing, and additional information will be provided as it becomes available. In accordance with LSP policy, Louisiana State Police personnel have begun preparing a Critical Incident Briefing Video, which will be released at a later date.

Louisiana State Police Investigating Trooper-Involved Shooting in Ascension Parish

Gonzales – Shortly before 2:00 am on September 30, 2025, Detectives assigned to the Louisiana State Police Force Investigation Unit (FIU) were requested to investigate a shooting incident involving a Trooper in Ascension Parish.

Preliminary information indicates that a Trooper initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle at LA Hwy 431 at LA Hwy 935. During the course of the traffic stop the Trooper discharged his service weapon. One subject was transported to a local hospital where they were pronounced deceased. The Trooper was uninjured.

FIU personnel and the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab are working to process the scene and gather further information. This is an active investigation and further information will be released when it becomes available.
