Opelousas – On May 22, 2026, shortly after 3:00 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop I began investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 190 near Jennings Road. The crash claimed the life of 19-year-old Courtney Hodge of Texas.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2005 Kenworth Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) was traveling west on LA-190 approaching Jennings Road. At the same time, a 2025 Kia K4 was traveling west on LA-190 behind the CMV. The CMV began to slow as it was approaching a crossover. For unknown reasons, the Kia failed to slow and rear-ended the CMV.

Hodge, who was not properly restrained, sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene. A standard toxicology sample was collected from Hodge and submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.

While the cause of this crash remains under investigation, distracted and inattentive driving continues to be a leading cause of crashes in our state. Louisiana State Police urges all motorists to stay alert while driving. Additionally, while not all crashes are survivable, proper use of seat belts can greatly decrease the chances of serious injury or death. Always ensure every occupant is properly restrained. Every trip. Every time.
