Bourg – On August 27, 2026, shortly after 3:00 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop C began investigating a single-vehicle serious injury crash on Louisiana Highway 24 (Bourg-Larose Highway) near Matherne Street in Lafourche Parish. The crash ultimately claimed the life of 17-year-old Zoe Villatoro of Bourg.
The preliminary investigation revealed that Villatoro was driving a 2016 Mazda 6 north on LA Hwy 24. For reasons still under investigation, the Mazda exited the roadway to the left while rotating counterclockwise. After leaving the roadway, the Mazda struck a large tree on the passenger side.
Villatoro, who was unrestrained at the time of the crash, sustained serious injuries and was transported to an out-of-area hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries. A rear-seat passenger, who was also unrestrained, sustained moderate injuries and was transported to an out-of-area hospital.
A standard toxicology sample was collected from Villatoro and submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that properly wearing a seat belt dramatically reduces your chances of being severely injured or killed in a crash. Louisiana law requires every person in a vehicle, regardless of seating position, to remain properly restrained at all times. Properly wearing your seat belt is one of the most effective ways to protect yourself and reduce the risk of serious injury or death in a crash.
