Haughton – On January 11, 2026, at approximately 4:45 a.m., Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop G responded to a single-vehicle crash on Davis Road near Louisiana Highway 157. The crash claimed the life of 36-year-old Martin Montes of Santa Fe, NM.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of a 2013 Chevrolet Camaro, with Montes as a passenger in the back seat, was traveling east on Davis Road. For reasons still under investigation, the Chevrolet traveled through the intersection of Louisiana Highway 157, exited the roadway, and collided with a tree.

Montes, who was unrestrained at the time of the crash, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver and a passenger in the front seat, whose restraint use is unknown due to the severity of the crash, sustained moderate injuries and were transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Impairment on the part of the driver is suspected. Toxicology samples were taken and submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation, and charges are pending.

Troopers wish to remind motorists of the importance of making good decisions while in motor vehicles. Never drive impaired, fatigued, or distracted. Additionally, Louisiana law requires that every person inside a motor vehicle, regardless of seat position, always remain properly restrained. While not all crashes are survivable, taking simple precautions like these can mean the difference between life and death.
