Unrestrained Passenger Killed in St. Charles Parish Crash

Hahnville – On April 29, 2022, shortly before 6:00 pm, Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop B responded to a two-vehicle crash on LA 3127 near LA 3160 in Hahnville. The crash ultimately claimed the life of 43-year-old Danielle Summers of Killona.

The initial investigation revealed that a 2007 Chrysler Town and Country was traveling west on LA 3127. At the same time, 49-year-old Billy Ray Hunt was driving a 2002 GMC Yukon south on LA 3160. Hunt was stopped at the LA 3127 intersection, waiting to turn left (east) onto LA 3127. As the Chrysler crossed the intersection of LA 3160, Hunt began crossing the west lanes of LA 3127 to conduct the left (east) turn. Hunt’s GMC struck the Chrysler. The impact caused the Chrysler to overturn multiple times.

Summers, who was the front seat passenger of the Chrysler, was unrestrained and ejected. Summers suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Chrysler suffered serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Hunt was not injured in the crash.

Impairment is unknown at this time and blood samples were obtained from all drivers and will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis as a part of the ongoing investigation. Any criminal or traffic violations discovered in the ongoing investigation will be forwarded to the St. Charles Parish District Attorney’s Office.

Troopers would like to remind motorists of the importance of safe decisions behind the wheel. While not all crashes are survivable, wearing a seatbelt greatly reduces the chances of being killed or seriously injured in a crash. Avoid distractions that take the driver’s focus away from the road. Having a plan and making safe decisions could be the difference for tomorrow.
