New Iberia – On November 3, 2026, shortly before 2:00 a.m., Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop I responded to a single-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 86 near Dumas Judice Road. The crash claimed the life of a 69-year-old woman of Abbeville.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2019 Nissan Sentra was traveling east on LA Hwy 86, approaching Dumas Judice Road. For reasons still under investigation, the Sentra failed to negotiate a right curve, exited the roadway, and overturned.
The driver of the Sentra was unrestrained, ejected from the vehicle, sustained moderate injuries, and was transported to a local hospital. The passenger of the Sentra was unrestrained, ejected from the vehicle, and pronounced deceased at the scene. Impairment is not suspected; however, a routine toxicology sample was obtained and submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
Louisiana State Police reminds motorists that proper restraint use significantly reduces the risk of serious injury or death in a crash. While not all crashes are preventable, making responsible decisions behind the wheel, including wearing a seat belt and remaining attentive, can save lives.
