Unrestrained Passenger Killed in Calcasieu Parish Crash on Interstate 10
Sulphur – On May 1, 2026, shortly after 4:00 a.m., Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a single-vehicle fatal crash on Interstate 10 East near mile marker 20 in Calcasieu Parish. The crash claimed the life of 46-year-old Tremaine Denson of Houston, Texas.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2002 Toyota Tacoma was traveling east on Interstate 10. For reasons still under investigation, the Toyota exited the roadway to the left, entered the median, and overturned several times before crossing over the westbound lanes.
The driver, who was unrestrained, was ejected from the vehicle, sustained severe injuries, and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Denson, who was also unrestrained, was partially ejected and pronounced dead at the scene. Impairment is unknown at this time; standard toxicology samples were collected and submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
Troopers wish to remind motorists of the importance of making good decisions while in motor vehicles. Never drive impaired, fatigued, or distracted. Additionally, Louisiana law requires that every person inside a motor vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain properly restrained. While not all crashes are survivable, taking simple precautions like these can often mean the difference between life and death.
