Lake Charles – On October 5, 2025, just before 11:00 a.m., Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop D began investigating a single-vehicle injury crash on Louisiana Highway 384 at the Black Bayou Bridge. The crash ultimately claimed the life of 45-year-old Eric Linden of Lake Charles.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by Linden, was traveling south on LA 384 towards the closed Black Bayou Bridge. For reasons still under investigation, the Chevrolet struck the crossing arm located in front of the bridge and overturned.
Linden was unrestrained, sustained serious injuries, and was transported to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. A routine toxicology sample was obtained from Linden and submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
Troopers wish to remind motorists to always make good decisions while in a motor vehicle. Never drive impaired, fatigued or distracted, and follow all traffic laws. Additionally, buckling up is the most effective way to protect yourself while in a vehicle. It can reduce the risk of serious injury or death in the event of a crash, and it takes only seconds to do so. While not all crashes are survivable, taking simple precautions such as these can often mean the difference between life and death.
