New Iberia - On July 21, 2025, shortly after 1:00 a.m., Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop I began investigating a single-vehicle fatality crash on U.S. Highway 90 Frontage Road near Captain Cade Road. The crash claimed the life of 44-year-old Renota Lowther of New Iberia.
The preliminary investigation revealed Lowther was driving a 2012 Infiniti M37 west on US 90 North Frontage Road. For reasons still under investigation, the Infiniti veered off the roadway to the right. Lowther then overcorrected, causing the Infiniti to cross back over the roadway before exiting to the left, where it struck an embankment and overturned.
Lowther, who was unrestrained, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Routine toxicology samples were collected for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
Troopers wish to remind motorists to always make good decisions while in a motor vehicle. Never drive impaired, fatigued, or distracted; follow all traffic laws, and always ensure every occupant is properly restrained. While not all crashes are survivable, taking simple precautions such as these can often mean the difference between life and death.
