Unrestrained Motorist Killed in Head-on Crash in West Baton Rouge Parish

Port Allen – Shortly after 6:30 p.m. on December 28, 2025, Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a two-vehicle head-on crash on LA 1, just north of LA 989-2 (Main Street). The crash claimed the life of 34-year-old Tyesha Banford of Ethel.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Banford was driving a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu south on LA 1 in the northbound lane. At the same time, a 2013 GMC Terrain was traveling north on LA 1 in the northbound lane. For reasons still under investigation, the two vehicles collided head-on.

Banford was unrestrained at the time of the crash, sustained fatal injuries, and was pronounced deceased on the scene. The driver of the GMC was also unrestrained, sustained serious injuries, and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Impairment is suspected to be a contributing factor in this crash, and routine toxicology samples were collected and submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.

Louisiana State Police wishes to remind motorists that proper restraint use significantly reduces the risk of serious injury or death in a crash. Troopers urge all drivers to always wear seat belts, avoid driving while impaired, and remain attentive behind the wheel. Motorists who observe reckless driving or criminal activity are encouraged to dial 911 or *LSP (*577) to connect with the nearest Louisiana State Police Troop.
