Merryville – On March 1, 2026, shortly before 2:30 p.m., Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a single-vehicle fatal crash on Louisiana Highway 111 near Eli Field Road in Beauregard Parish. The crash claimed the life of 76-year-old Reginald Fletcher of Merryville.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 1992 GMC Sonoma, driven by Fletcher, was traveling north on Louisiana Highway 111 approaching Eli Field Road. For reasons still under investigation, the GMC traveled off the roadway, struck a ditch, and overturned several times.

Fletcher, who was unrestrained, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Standard toxicology samples were collected and submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.

While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that properly wearing your seat belt will dramatically reduce your chances of being severely injured or killed in a crash. Louisiana law requires that every person in a vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up. Properly wearing your seat belt is one of the most effective ways to save your life and reduce injuries during crashes.
