Oakdale – On September 3, 2024, shortly after midnight, Louisiana State Police Troop D began investigating a two-vehicle fatality crash on U.S. Highway 165 near Pawnee Road. The crash claimed the life of 26-year-old Sebastian Janow of Glenmora.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2008 Chevrolet Equinox was traveling south on U.S. Highway 165 in the left lane. At the same time, a 2014 Kia Forte, being driven by Janow, was also traveling south on U.S. Highway 165 in the left lane. For reasons still under investigation, the Forte struck the rear of the Equinox.
Janow, who was unrestrained at the time of the crash, sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital where he later died. The driver of the Equinox, who was also unrestrained, received moderate injuries. A juvenile passenger in the Equinox received minor injuries and restraint use is still under investigation.
Standard toxicology samples were collected from both drivers and submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
Troopers wish to remind all motorists to make good decisions while in a motor vehicle. Never drive impaired, fatigued, or distracted. Additionally, Louisiana law requires that every person in a vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up. While not all crashes are survivable, these precautions can dramatically reduce your chances of being severely injured or killed.
