Ponchatoula – Last night, shortly before 7:15 p.m., Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L began investigating a single-vehicle fatal crash on Interstate 55 near U.S. Hwy 51 in Tangipahoa Parish. The crash claimed the life of 74-year-old Robert Kimble of Hammond.

The initial investigation revealed the crash occurred as Kimble was northbound on Interstate 55 in a 2001 Lexus RX3. For reasons still under investigation, Kimble lost control of the Lexus and impacted a guardrail.

Kimble was unrestrained and sustained severe injuries as a result of the crash. Kimble was transported to a local hospital before he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. As part of the ongoing investigation, a toxicology sample was obtained from Kimble for analysis.

While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that properly wearing your seat belt will dramatically reduce your chance of being injured or killed in a crash. Louisiana law requires that every person in a vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up. Properly wearing your seat belt is one of the most effective ways to save your life and reduce injuries in crashes.
