Coushatta – This morning, at approximately 9:15 a.m., Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop G responded to a single-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 174 near Catfish Bend Road. The crash claimed the life of 41-year-old David Purvis, Jr. of Shreveport.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 1980 Ford F2000, driven by Purvis, was traveling east on Louisiana Highway 174. For reasons still under investigation, Purvis’ vehicle exited the roadway and overturned.
Purvis, who was unrestrained at the time of the crash, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced deceased at the scene. Impairment is not suspected; however, standard toxicology samples were taken and submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that properly wearing your seat belt will dramatically reduce your chance of being severely injured or killed in a crash. Louisiana law requires that every person in a vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up. Properly wearing your seat belt is one of the most effective ways to save your life and reduce injuries during crashes.
