Metairie – On Saturday, September 13, 2025, around 12:45 a.m., Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop B began investigating a single-vehicle crash on I-10 west at the Causeway Boulevard exit in Jefferson Parish. The crash ultimately claimed the life of 49-year-old Selenta James of Metairie.

The preliminary investigation revealed that James was driving a 2022 Nissan Murano on the Causeway Boulevard exit from I-10 west when the vehicle traveled off the roadway and into the grass. A Trooper observed the vehicle and attempted to make contact with the driver, who appeared to be experiencing a medical emergency. While the Trooper was attempting to gain entry, the Murano suddenly accelerated forward and struck a concrete support pillar of the Causeway Boulevard overpass.

James was unrestrained at the time of the crash and suffered serious injuries. She was transported to a local hospital, where she later died. Impairment is not suspected; however, routine toxicology results are pending. This crash remains under investigation.

You never know when trouble may strike, but if you’re behind the wheel, wearing your seatbelt correctly is your best protection in an emergency, and can significantly improve your chances of survival and reduce the severity of injuries. Ensure the seatbelt is correctly positioned across your hips and shoulders, and ensure children are securely fastened in appropriate car seats. These measures are crucial for arriving at your destination safely.
