Napoleonville – On May 26, 2026, shortly after 6:00 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop C responded to a single-vehicle fatality crash on Louisiana Highway 401, approximately 2.6 miles east of Louisiana Highway 400 in Assumption Parish. The crash claimed the life of 40-year-old Sara Magnuson of Napoleonville.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Magnuson was driving a 2008 Toyota Avalon east on LA Hwy 401. For reasons still under investigation, the Toyota failed to negotiate a right-hand curve, exited the roadway to the left, and entered a ditch. After traveling through the ditch, the Toyota struck an embankment, causing the vehicle to overturn.

Magnuson, who was unrestrained at the time of the crash, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

A standard toxicology sample was collected from Magnuson and submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.

While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that properly wearing your seat belt dramatically reduces your chances of being severely injured or killed in a crash. Louisiana law requires every person in a vehicle, regardless of seating position, to remain properly restrained at all times. Properly wearing your seat belt is one of the most effective ways to save your life and reduce injuries during a crash.
