Oberlin – On January 24, 2025, shortly after 6:00 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop D began investigating a single-vehicle fatality crash on Louisiana Highway 26 near Turner Road. The crash claimed the life of 37-year-old Corey Dauzat of Oakdale.
The preliminary investigation revealed that Dauzat was driving a 1998 GMC Sierra east on LA Hwy 26. For reasons still under investigation, the GMC crossed the centerline before traveling off the roadway to the left and striking a tree.
Dauzat, who was unrestrained at the time of the crash, sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene.
A standard toxicology sample was collected and submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
Troopers wish to remind all motorists to make good decisions while in a motor vehicle. Never drive impaired, fatigued, or distracted. Additionally, Louisiana law requires that every person in a vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up. While not all crashes are survivable, these precautions can dramatically reduce your chances of being severely injured or killed.
