Coushatta – On February 22, 2025, at approximately 9:45 a.m., Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop G responded to a two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 84 near Cut-Off Road. The crash claimed the life of 70-year-old Ella Winn of Coushatta.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2019 Chevrolet Tahoe, driven by 23-year-old Asia Pikes, was traveling west on U.S. Highway 84. The Tahoe was visibly marked as a Red River Parish Sheriff’s Office unit with emergency lights and sirens activated. At the same time, a 2022 Nissan Rogue, driven by Winn, was traveling east on U.S. Highway 84. For reasons still under investigation, the Nissan made a left turn and collided with the Tahoe.
Winn, who was unrestrained at the time of the crash, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Pikes, who was properly restrained, sustained severe injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Impairment is not suspected; however, standard toxicology samples were collected from both drivers and submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
While the cause of this crash remains under investigation, Louisiana State Police urges drivers to obey all traffic laws, remain alert while driving, and ensure every occupant is properly restrained. While not all crashes are survivable, taking simple precautions such as these can often mean the difference between life and death.
