Terrytown – On Saturday, January 18, 2025, around 3:30 a.m., Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop B were notified of a two-vehicle crash on LA 23 at Wall Boulevard in Jefferson Parish. The crash ultimately claimed the life of 61-year-old Kevin Meredith of Marrero.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Meredith was driving a 1996 Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck south on LA 23 approaching Wall Boulevard. At the same time, a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck was stopped at the red light on LA 23 south at Wall Boulevard. For reasons still under investigation, while the Silverado was stopped, the S-10 pickup impacted the rear of the Silverado.

Meredith, who was unrestrained, suffered serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where he remained in critical condition. On Friday, January 31, 2025, Meredith died due to his injuries from the crash. At the time of the crash, the driver and passenger of the Silverado were both properly restrained and uninjured. As part of the ongoing investigation, routine toxicology samples were obtained from Meredith for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.

While not all crashes are survivable, wearing seat belts correctly can significantly improve your chances of survival and reduce injury severity. Ensure that the seatbelt is correctly positioned across your hips and shoulders, and make sure that children are securely fastened in appropriate car seats. These measures are crucial for arriving at your destination safely. Additionally, distracted and inattentive driving remains a leading cause of crashes in our state. These simple precautions and adhering to all traffic laws can significantly enhance road safety.
