Unrestrained Driver and Passenger Killed in Single-Vehicle Vermilion Parish Crash

Abbeville – On May 30, 2025, shortly after 11:00 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop I began investigating a single-vehicle fatality crash on Louisiana Highway 14 near Fore Road. The crash claimed the lives of 69-year-old Brian Mayard of Abbeville and 45-year-old Guy McNeil of Youngsville.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Mayard was driving a 2018 Chevrolet Corvette west on LA Hwy 14 at a high rate of speed. For reasons still under investigation, the Chevrolet left the roadway to the right, entered a ditch, and struck a culvert before overturning.

Both Mayard and McNeil were unrestrained at the time of the crash, sustained fatal injuries, and died at the scene.

A standard toxicology sample was collected and submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.

Troopers wish to remind all motorists to make good decisions while in a motor vehicle. Never drive impaired, fatigued, or distracted. Additionally, Louisiana law requires that every person in a vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up. While not all crashes are survivable, these precautions can dramatically reduce your chances of being severely injured or killed.
