Two-Vehicle Fatal Crash in Ascension Parish Results in Arrest of Addis Man
Donaldsonville – Shortly after 6:00 a.m. on October 5, 2026, Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a two-vehicle crash on LA 1 near Stewart Road in Ascension Parish. The crash claimed the life of a 27-year-old man from Walker.  

The preliminary investigation revealed that 48-year-old James Cascio of Addis was driving a 2012 Ford F-150 southbound on LA 1. At the same time, a 2004 Honda Pilot was traveling northbound on LA 1. For reasons still under investigation, the F-150 crossed the centerline and struck the Honda in the northbound travel lane.

Both drivers were properly restrained at the time of the crash. Cascio sustained moderate injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The driver of the Honda sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Impairment is not suspected; however, routine toxicology samples will be obtained and submitted for analysis.

Cascio was arrested for Negligent Homicide and Careless Operation. Upon his release from the hospital, he will be booked into the Ascension Parish Jail.

Louisiana State Police wishes to remind motorists that even a momentary lapse in attention or failure to maintain proper lane position can have devastating consequences. Motorists should remain attentive, avoid distractions, and maintain control of their vehicle at all times.
