Laplace – On Friday, November 14, 2025, just before 6:00 a.m., Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop B began investigating a hit-and-run crash involving a pedestrian on US 61 near Hemlock Drive in St. John the Baptist Parish. The crash ultimately claimed the life of 59-year-old Darius Crump of Laplace.
The preliminary investigation revealed that Crump was walking southbound on US 61, near Hemlock Drive, in the continuous center turn lane, and was struck by a black Ford F-250 pickup truck traveling north on US 61 in the continuous center turn lane. The Ford remained near the scene briefly before fleeing northbound on US 61. As a result of the crash, Crump suffered severe injuries and died on scene.
Through investigative resources, Troopers determined the suspect pickup truck is a black 2017 Ford F-250 Super Duty, bearing Louisiana license plate Z549227. The Ford should have damage to the front driver's side headlight area. A picture of the suspect vehicle is attached.
