Amite – On October 20, 2025, at approximately 10:50 p.m., Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop L responded to a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 55 near LA Highway 16 in Tangipahoa Parish. The crash claimed the life of 48-year-old Rashida H. Taylor of Prairieville.
The preliminary investigation revealed that Taylor was driving a 2005 Toyota Corolla southbound on Interstate 55. For reasons still under investigation, the Toyota traveled off the roadway to the right, overturned, and struck a tree.
Taylor was unrestrained, ejected from the vehicle, and pronounced deceased at the scene. As part of the ongoing investigation, a routine toxicology sample was obtained for analysis.
Louisiana law requires all vehicle occupants to be properly restrained, regardless of seating position. When worn correctly, seat belts help spread the forces of a crash across the strongest parts of the body, protect the head and spine, slow the body down gradually, and greatly reduce the risk of ejection.
Slidell – On October 21, 2025, at approximately 2:20 a.m., Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop L began investigating a multi-vehicle fatal crash involving a pedestrian on Interstate 10, Twin Span Bridge, about three miles south of Old Spanish Trail in St. Tammany Parish. The crash claimed the life of 26-year-old Edashia Caraway of Appleton, Wisconsin.
The preliminary investigation revealed that Caraway was on the eastbound lanes of Interstate 10 when a 2026 Mazda CX-5, also traveling eastbound, struck her. Preliminary findings suggest that another vehicle may have struck Caraway before the Mazda.
Caraway was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Mazda was properly restrained and uninjured. Routine toxicology samples were obtained from both individuals for analysis as part of the ongoing investigation.
