Troopers Investigating Separate Fatal Crashes in Lafourche Parish

Des Allemands – On February 12, 2026, shortly after 6:00 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop C began investigating to a two-vehicle serious injury crash on U.S. Highway 90 near Cypress Drive in Lafourche Parish. The crash ultimately claimed the life of 52-year-old Kenneth McMillan of New Orleans.

The preliminary investigation revealed that McMillan was driving a 2023 Toyota RAV4 eastbound on U.S. Highway 90, while a 2021 Chevrolet Colorado was traveling westbound. For reasons still under investigation, the Toyota traveled off the roadway to the left, crossed the center median into the westbound lanes, and struck the Chevrolet head-on.

McMillan sustained serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died. The driver of the Chevrolet sustained moderate injuries and was transported to an out-of-area hospital. Both drivers were properly restrained at the time of the crash.

Standard toxicology samples were collected from both drivers and submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.

Thibodaux – On February 12, 2026, shortly after 10:00 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop C began investigating a serious injury crash involving a bicyclist on Louisiana Highway 1 near Bayou Vista Drive in Lafourche Parish. The crash ultimately claimed the life of 61-year-old Wayne Mayet of Thibodaux.  

The preliminary investigation revealed that Mayet was attempting to cross LA Hwy 1 from the southbound shoulder to the northbound shoulder. For reasons still under investigation, Mayet failed to yield and was struck by a 2025 Ford F-450 traveling south on LA Hwy 1. 

Mayet sustained serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died. Mayet was not wearing a bicycle helmet when the crash occurred. The driver of the F-450 driver was properly restrained and suffered no injuries. 

The driver of the F-450 showed no signs of impairment and voluntarily submitted a breath sample, which showed no alcohol detected. A standard toxicology sample was collected from Mayet for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
