Troopers Investigating Four-Vehicle Crash with Multiple Fatalities in Ascension Parish
Prairieville – Shortly after 6:00 p.m. on August 12, 2026, Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a four-vehicle crash on Interstate 10 east near milepost 169 in Ascension Parish. The crash claimed the lives of 35-year-old Alyssia Stewart and 37-year-old Dusharne Stewart, both of Prairieville.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2022 Ford F-250 was traveling east on I-10 in the left lane. At the same time, a 2017 Nissan Altima, driven by Alyssia Stewart, was also traveling east on I-10 in the left lane, in front of the Ford. For reasons still under investigation, the Ford struck the rear of the Nissan. After initial impact, the Nissan struck the rear of a 2026 Kia Carnival, which then struck the rear of a 2023 GMC Yukon.
Alyssia Stewart, the driver of the Nissan, and Dusharne Stewart, a passenger in the Nissan, were both properly restrained and transported to a local hospital, where they were pronounced deceased. The driver of the Kia was properly restrained and transported to a local hospital with moderate injuries. The drivers of the Ford and GMC were properly restrained and reported no injuries. Impairment is unknown; however, routine toxicology samples will be taken and submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation, and charges are pending the outcome of the investigation.
Louisiana State Police reminds motorists to remain attentive at all times and maintain a safe following distance from the vehicle ahead. Following too closely can significantly reduce the time and distance available to react when traffic slows or stops unexpectedly. Staying focused, allowing adequate space, and adjusting your speed to traffic conditions can help prevent serious crashes.
