Troopers Investigating Fatal Two-Vehicle Crash in Livingston Parish
Walker – Shortly before 10:30 p.m. on August 8, 2026, Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop A investigated a two-vehicle crash on LA 63 (Weiss Road), just south of LA 449 in Livingston Parish. The crash claimed the life of 40-year-old Louis Gurka of Holden.
The preliminary investigation revealed that Gurka was driving a 2012 Toyota Camry south on LA 63. At the same time, a 2019 Hyundai Elantra was traveling north on LA 63. For reasons still under investigation, the Camry crossed the centerline and struck the Elantra head-on.
Gurka was unrestrained and was pronounced deceased on the scene. The driver of the Elantra and a front seat passenger were both properly restrained, sustained serious injuries, and were transported to a local hospital for treatment. Impairment is unknown at this time; however, routine toxicology samples will be obtained from both drivers and submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
Louisiana State Police reminds motorists that making responsible decisions behind the wheel can prevent serious injury and death. Never drive impaired, always obey posted speed limits, and ensure every occupant is properly restrained. Seat belts significantly increase the chances of surviving a crash.
