Troopers Investigate Two Overnight Fatal Crashes Involving Unrestrained Motorists

In the early morning hours of May 16, 2025, Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop A investigated two separate fatal crashes on LA 67 in two different parishes.

East Baton Rouge Parish: Shortly after 2:00 a.m., Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop A responded to a single-vehicle crash on LA 67 at Lemon Road. The crash claimed the life of 25-year-old Alexus Lee of Baton Rouge.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Lee was driving a 2013 Toyota Highlander north on LA 67. For reasons still under investigation, the Toyota exited the roadway to the left, struck a culvert, and overturned. Lee was unrestrained, sustained fatal injuries, and was pronounced deceased on the scene. Impairment is unknown; however, a routine toxicology sample was collected for analysis.

East Feliciana Parish: Just before 3:45 a.m., Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop A responded to a single-vehicle crash on LA 67 at Idlewild Road. The crash claimed the life of 35-year-old John Collins of Clinton.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Collins was traveling south on LA 67 at a high rate of speed in a 2016 Chevrolet Camaro. As a result, the vehicle failed to negotiate a right-hand curve, exited the roadway to the left, and struck a tree. Collins was unrestrained and was ejected from the vehicle. He sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased on the scene. Impairment is not suspected; however, a toxicology sample was obtained and will be submitted for analysis. Both crashes remain under investigation.

Troopers wish to remind motorists to always make responsible choices when driving: avoid impairment, fatigue, and distractions. Follow traffic laws and ensure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained. While not all crashes are preventable, simple precautions like these can save lives.
