On the evening of Saturday, November 22, 2025, and in the early morning hours of Sunday, November 23, 2025, Troopers with the Louisiana State Police Troop B investigated two separate fatal crashes in St. John the Baptist and Orleans Parishes, resulting in three fatalities.
Manchac – Shortly before 9:00 p.m. on November 22, 2025, Troopers responded to a multi-vehicle crash on I-55 north, just before the Manchac Bridge in St. John the Baptist Parish. The crash ultimately claimed the life of 88-year-old Lula Kinchen of Hammond, and one of the drivers, whose identity is being withheld pending further investigation.
The preliminary investigation revealed that an Infiniti SUV was traveling north on I-55 approaching milepost 14.4, behind a Honda CR-V, when, for unknown reasons, the Infiniti crashed into the rear of the Honda. After impacting the Honda, the Infiniti traveled into the left northbound lane and was struck on its left side by a Nissan Maxima. Following the crash, both the Infiniti and Nissan became engulfed in flames.
Kinchen, a passenger of the Nissan, suffered serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where she later died. The driver of the Infiniti suffered serious injuries and died on scene. The driver of the Honda was properly restrained and uninjured. Due to the severity of the crash, it is unknown if the occupants of both the Infiniti and Nissan were restrained at the time of the crash, and toxicology results are pending. This crash remains under investigation.
New Orleans – Shortly before 3:00 a.m. on November 23, 2025, Troopers responded to a multi-vehicle crash on US 90B in the HOV lanes of the Crescent City Connection Bridge, in Orleans Parish, involving a pedestrian. The crash claimed the life of 22-year-old Logan York of New Orleans.
The preliminary investigation revealed that York was driving a Toyota Camry westbound on US 90B in the HOV lane on the Crescent City Connection Bridge when it was involved in a crash with a Volvo S60, leaving both vehicles disabled in the roadway. Before emergency personnel arrived, York exited the Toyota and was standing in the roadway attempting to flag oncoming traffic when he was struck by a Nissan Frontier in the left lane.
York sustained severe injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where he later died. The driver of the Volvo and a passenger in York’s car were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the Nissan was properly restrained and uninjured. Impairment is unknown; however, toxicology results are pending. This crash remains under investigation.
Distracted and inattentive driving continues to be a leading cause of crashes in Louisiana. While not every crash is survivable, wearing your seatbelt significantly reduces the risk of injury or death. Troopers urge all motorists to stay alert and use caution, especially when approaching disabled vehicles or pedestrians along the roadway. Many crashes involving pedestrians are preventable when basic safety precautions are followed. If you must walk near highways or other roadways, wear reflective clothing, stay in well-lit areas, walk facing oncoming traffic, and avoid distractions. Simple actions-such as buckling up, obeying traffic laws, and driving the posted speed limit-go a long way toward keeping everyone safe.
