Grayson – On Wednesday, October 8, 2025, shortly before 10:00 p.m., Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop F began investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 165 at its intersection with Louisiana Highway 126. The crash claimed the life of 13-year-old Irvin Hernandez Barajas of Columbia.
The initial investigation revealed that a 2005 GMC Envoy was stopped at the red light in the right southbound lane of U.S. Highway 165 at its intersection with Louisiana Highway 126. At the same time, a 2016 Freightliner commercial motor vehicle was traveling south on U.S. Highway 165, in the right lane. For reasons still under investigation, the Freightliner struck the rear of the GMC.
Barajas, who was the right rear passenger in the GMC, was unrestrained and received serious injuries. He was transported to an area hospital for treatment. The driver and front seat passenger in the GMC were both properly restrained and uninjured. The driver of the Freightliner, who was properly restrained, was uninjured. Although impairment is not suspected, routine toxicology samples were collected and will be submitted for analysis.
On Thursday, October 9, 2025, shortly after 5:00 a.m. Barajas was pronounced deceased. This crash remains under investigation.
Although not every crash is survivable, properly wearing your seat belt significantly reduces your risk of serious injury or death in a crash. Taking the time to ensure that every occupant is properly restrained can often mean the difference between life and death.
